Skin + Energy Smoothie

Happy healthy skin

Looking after your skin is both an internal and external job. More and more research continues to show the direct correlation between the health of our gut and what we feed our bodies on the inside, to the state of our skin.

And it also works the other way - what we put on our skin can also affect our internal health. It’s a large and ever-evolving subject that requires both areas to be considered in a holistic way when looking to regain balance or overcome issues.

While there’s a never ending catalog of smoothies and juices, here’s my daily must-have morning boost that offers huge benefits to your skin (good fats, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibre, protein, enzymes, collagen etc), as well as helping with hormonal balance, digestion and energy.

Skin and energy smoothie

Skin + Energy Smoothie

1 cup water

1 cup almond milk

1 kiwi fruit

A mix of frozen mango, pineapple, papaya, banana

Spinach leaves (or kale)

Couple of pieces of avocado

2 tsps greens powder that also contains pea protein and probiotics

5g marine collagen

1/2 tsp maca root

Sprinkling of chia seeds

Sprinkling of pepitas

If in the pantry: tumeric & ginger (either powdered or shaving of the raw roots, depending what’s at home).

Notes:

  • Try a glass of water with lemon or lime and pinch of good quality salt first thing in the morning to drench your cells with hydration.

  • I avoid dairy (as it’s an inflammatory) and opt for almond milk, but you could also use any other non-dairy substitute; the water is included so not as much milk is needed to provide more liquid.

  • I avoid berries in our smoothies as they can have a histamine-promoting effect which is not ideal if you have or are prone to inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema.

  • The greens powder - I use quite a known brand for the fact that it not only contains a large spectrum of greens, vegetables, protein and probiotics, it also has no sugar! It uses Stevia as the sweetener.

If you can’t find any of the ingredients, email or direct message me on Instagram and I can provide you with the exact product.
