Anchor … the next-gen in body oils, benefits and how-to

No matter what season it is, keeping your skin barrier strong, inflammation at bay, and your cells hydrated & moisturised is a must … not only for your face but your entire body. Exposed to all the same environmental stressors, absorbing even more of what you slather on, and susceptible to all the same skin issues (plus a few more…hello ingrown hairs), we can often overlook how we care for the skin on our body.

Whether it’s feeling the effects of the dry air during the cooler months, or it’s being hit with the extra sun and salt as you enjoy the warm summer days outdoors, a decadent body serum can really take your moisturising game to another level. Once I made the switch from the ol’ lotions and creams, which often leave a filmy residue & result in my skin wanting more throughout the day, have never looked back & neither has my skin health.

Body serum benefits

  1. Deep nourishment for a strong skin barrier

Our skin naturally produces its own oil called lipids (fats). The purpose of these natural fats is to maintain your skin barrier function to ensure moisture (water) is locked in, and pollutants, dirt & impurities are kept out. They also play a major role in your skin’s natural repair process. Oils can directly feed the building blocks of your skin cells with ceramides, cholesterol & fatty acids, & restore those lipids that get stripped with washing, swimming etc.

  2. Lock in moisture

A strong skin barrier means your skin is better equipped to lock in hydration (aka reduce trans epidermal water loss), keeping your cells plump and skin issues like dry itchy skin at bay.

  3. Relax & rejuvenate

Turn the routine task of moisturising your limbs into a mood-boosting aromatherapy session. There is nothing more rejuvenating than stepping out of a shower and massaging a decadent fluid over tired and aching muscles, while allowing the natural aromas to calm and reset your mind. The combination of infused botanical extracts such as jasmine and pure essential oils like sandalwood, frankincense, cedarwood & rose has resulted in one of the most gorgeous scents. A good massage works in partnership with ingredients like cedarwood to also boost circulation & stimulate lymph drainage.

How to take your body-care game to the next level

When I formulated Anchor I knew I wanted to provide a daily treatment that was parallel with the nutrient-dense ingredients we offer our face. Using body oils in self-care rituals has been a part of ancient cultures for thousands of years. So while I have taken inspiration & knowledge from our ancestors using cold-pressed/virgin botanicals oils as the base, Anchor is much more than a body oil, which typically consists of a few carrier oils blended with some essential oils. Anchor is bio active, technically a body serum – full of botanical extracts that feed our skin dense nutrients, antioxidants, fatty acids, polyphenols & minerals to promote radiant skin health. Botanical oils such as apricot for its pro-vitamin A & skin regenerating properties, hazelnut for its pore-clearing abilities & baobab for it’s omegas to plump our cells, are enriched with herbs & botanicals such as kelp, calendula, wattle, kangaroo paw, yarrow, olive leaf, sandalwood and the resins from frankincense & myrrh. These ingredients work to improve skin tone, encourage circulation and lymph movement, & boost the epidermal cell turnover & healing. You can have a closer read  at Anchor and it’s ingredients here

When using oil-based products like Anchor, maximise absorption by applying to damp skin such as after showering or a bath, and massage over the entire body. If applying to dry skin, you can massage with damp hands to transform the serum into a slight lotion for an even more absorbed touch. I just adore the luxurious skin-feel & satin finish that is never sticky or sits on top of the skin. You can wear Anchor alone or apply our  Reset Barrier Balm over the top to areas that are extremely dry or irritated.
